Dog owners are being urged to stay alert after police confirmed that pieces of chicken believed to contain toxins have been discovered in Brompton Cemetery, leaving pets seriously ill and wildlife dead.

Posted at the site police officers wrote: “It has been brought to our attention from several sources that meat (chicken) has been left in both Holland Park and Brompton Cemetery. A dog has consumed this meat and become very unwell and two foxes have been found dead (with no obvious signs of injury). We believe that this meat may contain toxins and has been left on purpose to either harm foxes or dogs.”

Dog walkers are being asked to keep pets close, prevent them from scavenging, and report any suspicious behaviour or further sightings of meat. In Brompton Cemetery, police have reminded the public that dogs must be kept on leads at all times and the existing advice from The Royal Parks, which manages the cemetery is that dogs should not be allowed loose.

Officers are appealing for information from anyone who may have seen the meat being placed or who has further reports from the area. They are also encouraging residents to share the warning widely with other dog owners.
